Publication looks at coaches role in promoting athlete mental well-being
A coach’s role should include fostering a team culture that supports athlete’s mental health, encouraging care-seeking and supporting athletes currently receiving mental healthcare. That conclusion is supporting in the paper “Determining the role of sport coaches in promoting athlete mental health: a narrative review and Delphi approach” which was recently published in journal BMJ.
Prevention Strategies Director of Research and Innovation, Stephen Hebard, PhD, is a co-author on the publication along with Emily Kroshus, ScD, MPH and James E. Bissett, M.Sc.
The study is the first to use a structured Delphi process to develop specific recommendations about the role coaches can play in supporting athlete mental health.
