Prevention Strategies Awarded Grants for Game Study
Researchers at Prevention Strategies have been awarded a Small Business Innovation Research grant from the National Institute on Drug Use. This Phase I technology grant is to develop and test a prototype for a gamified drug prevention program. Drs. Lawrence M. Scheier and William B. Hansen consider video games as a means to teach youth social and cognitive skills that will help them successfully navigate adolescence. This award has also been supplemented with matching funds provided by the One North Carolina Small Business Fund Matching Grant to stimulate technology development within the state of North Carolina.
Youth interviews for the study took place in January and the prototype is currently in development. David Wyrick, President of Prevention Strategies commented, "Great example of taking new and innovative approaches to problem-solving!"
