New Publication: Latent Class Analysis of Gameplay Metrics from Youth Playing Robot Champions™

Congratulations to Dr. Lawrence M. Scheier and Dr. William Hansen, whose latest research has been published in the International Journal of Serious Games:
“Latent Class Analysis of Gameplay Metrics from Youth Playing Robot Champions™: Relations of Class Membership to Persistence and Intensity.”

Analyzing gameplay data from 153,000+ youth and nearly 200,000 sessions, the study identified four distinct engagement styles in Robot Champions™. Importantly, it showed that young people don’t interact with prevention- and learning-focused games in the same way—and that engagement patterns shift over time.

These findings support our commitment to designing evidence-based, adaptable, and engaging approaches to prevention and health promotion. By understanding how youth engage with digital learning tools, we can create programs that better meet learners where they are—whether in classrooms, communities, or online environments.

This research exemplifies how we merge science, innovation, and practical application to advance prevention in ways that are both impactful and sustainable.
