McCrae Williams Foundation
We are proud to highlight the continued partnership between the McCrae Williams Foundation and Prevention Strategies, working together to enhance student health and safety through research, education, and advocacy.
Most recently, we completed a comprehensive Delphi study (2021–2023), with support from our research affiliate Center for Athlete Well-Being at UNC Greensboro. This study engaged student-athletes, coaches, athletic directors, trainers, and public health professionals to identify barriers and develop strategies for improving medical amnesty policies in collegiate athletics. Published research findings from this Delphi study are forthcoming—stay tuned!
Our most recent published study based on pilot data collected by the McCrae Williams Foundation, "Content comparison of campus medical amnesty policies," (2024) can be found in the Journal of American College Health: This study analyzed medical amnesty policies from 50 U.S. colleges and universities and found that many lack key components—such as clear purpose statements, instructions on how to use the policy, and protections for bystanders. These gaps can create barriers to bystander intervention and delay life-saving medical help.
The longstanding collaboration between the McCrae Williams Foundation and Prevention Strategies is rooted in a shared mission: to ensure life-saving policies like medical amnesty are widely understood, adopted, and effectively implemented on college campuses.
Together, we’re creating safer campus environments, encouraging proactive bystander intervention, and honoring McCrae’s legacy through meaningful, lasting change.
