Drs. Scheier & Hansen’s latest publication on educational gameplay

Congratulations to Prevention Strategies' Drs. Lawrence M. Scheier and William Hansen on their latest article published in the International Journal of Serious Games!

In collaboration with thegame developer Filament Games, their study analyzed gameplay data from Robot Champions™—a multiplayer educational game designed to introduce 13–17-year-olds to STEM concepts through hands-on digital robotic engineering challenges.

Using real-time data from over 150,000 players, they identified distinct styles of gameplay. These styles included the different ways youth engage tutorials, game challenges, driving the robots, and robot-building mechanics—offering valuable insights for game designers and educators alike.

These findings have exciting implications not only for STEM learning, but also for how we design interactive digital programs that foster persistence, engagement, and skill-building in youth.
