BrainCare
BrainCare is our online concussion education and concussion reporting promotion program that engages both student-athletes and coaches.
Developed in collaboration with experts from the fields of prevention science, curriculum development, concussion education and sports medicine; BrainCare’s goal is to increase concussion reporting among collegiate student-athletes by targeting their norms, expectancies, and intentions as well as the attitudes and intentions of coaches.
BrainCare includes 4 student-athlete lessons and 1 module for coaches.
Goals of the BrainCare athlete modules are:
- Increase sport-related concussion (SRC) knowledge
- Decrease negative expectancies related to the outcome of self-reporting concussion symptoms
- Correct inaccurate misperceptions regarding the approval of SRC reporting by other student-athletes and coaches
- Correct inaccurate misperceptions student-athletes carry regarding the prevalence and approval of SRC reporting by other student-athletes and coaches
- Increase student-athlete perceived control over reporting SRC’s
- Increase in self-efficacy to reporting SRC symptoms and/or events to coaches and sports medicine personnel
Goals of the coaches' module are:
- Increase sport-related concussion (SRC) knowledge
- Increase coach knowledge about SRC health/safety and SRC symptoms
- Increase coach positive attitudes associated with SRC reporting
- Increase positive expectancies and decrease negative expectancies related to SRC reporting by student-athletes
